I said in my last blog that I was going to do a comparison of my fitness and work rate between starting and my most recent gym trip. Unfortunately the data from the early trips was a more than a little unreliable and a little haphazard. It also showed that my strength but not my endurance has increased!
I was also having doubts about keeping a blog every time I went to the gym and after tonight I knew that was something I was going to change. Also my 28m of cv work and 40m of weights seemed to be making little progress in weight loss and my legs seemed not to recover between sessions.
I've therefore made a few decisions ...
I'm not going to blog after every session, just significant ones such as weight loss or an extra minute on my running time.
I'm not going to do weights work which targets my legs, after all, if I'm running or using a cross trainer then I'm already pushing around 110Kg up and down every time on one or other leg.
I'm going to do more upper body weights to burn more fat. It seems my wife likes my pumped arms - I knew this already from the time we met over 5 years ago - and seems very "encouraged" by my chest filling out again.
So while the extra upper body weight from the muscle may increase my weight I believe the ability to do more running will help my progress in my running. I'm also starting to have doubts (again!) about achieving my goal. Maybe I'll have to settle for living an extra 10 years or enjoying my refereeing more ... who knows, maybe my fitness will just creep up during the season???
