Having given up an attractive League Cup game to officiate at a re-arranged County Trophy game, I was very disappointed when the away team didn't turn up.
In the original fixture, the referee had not turned up and the away team refused to play without an officially appointed referee. Competition rules require the teams to agree a referee if the appointed official doesn't turn up and then play the game. As they didn't follow the rules both teams were fined £25.
So having waited for an hour after the appoointed kick off time I called the game off. No one had been able to contact the away team's contact despite a number of attempts, so I have to report these events to the County FA.
I tried the away team one more time when I got home and the person who answered told me that the team had another game somewhere else, which of course was incorrect. It's now down to the County FA to deal with the matter.
