At the end of last season I began my transition from rebel to establishment as I took on responsibility for representing my local Referee's Association on the committee of my local Sunday morning league.
This continued as I put myself forward to train as an assessor of developing referees. The next step was to assist with the coaching of young referees at the Leeds United Referee Academy and the final step was to become the RA's representative to the District FA.
Very recently, one of the people who has supported me in my development, JB, was taken ill and rushed to hospital following a heart attack. JB acts as the Secretary of the local RA, co-ordinator of the assessments in our area and serves on the District FA. JB requires surgery to help his condition and he is going to be out of action for three months once it is completed.
I've been asked to step into JB's shoes for a few months and while initially I had my reservations, I've accepted the reponsibility. It's a bit of an honour that such faith is being shown in me and I'm going to do my best to make sure I don't let anyone down.
