No whistle in hand today, it was dictaphone, pen and folder while I carried out an assessment on a friend and colleague.
The referee in question became (like me) a referee to help out his son's junior team shortly before the offspring gave up the game. He has been taking games at the same level for quite a few seasons now. In fact he was an Assistant on the League Trophy Final a couple of seasons ago, when I was 4th Official for the Fat Lad. This year he decided to try for a promotion to Level 6.
He actually belongs in a different district however they have had some difficulties in getting all of their promotion candidates assessed. As this is the very last weekend for assessments in this promotion season, I offered my help. He did pretty well and got through the game without any major mistakes and none of which impacted on the result.
So that's my first good deed of the weekend. In the morning I have an U15 game for my local Unibond team and then in the afternoon, the Fat Lad is involved in an Old Boys game for former players of my local Supply League team. I'm promised a torrid time by the old heads!!!
