Had lots of little snippets of news today about various things.
The first news came in the form of a phone call from the Fat Lad. He's been appointed as Referee for the League Cup Final at the end of the season. While I'm a little jealous, I am chuffed to bits for him and he's had a brilliant season. I had hoped to get a look in at the Trophy Final but I've heard nothing so far and hopes are fading ...
The second news came was hearing that my colleague and fellow RA member, Dave Margetson, had been assaulted when doing a game involving Churwell Lions last Saturday. The matter will be in the hands of the County FA before being passed to the League to decide what other action they want to take. In similar situations, the players involved have received sine die suspensions from all football activity by the County FA which are not to be reviewed for a minimum of 5 years. Although in a different league, the players registration has also been cancelled, meaning they can never play in the League again. I hope the same happens to this player as well. I had my own issues at Churwell a few weeks ago, when I was threatened by a player after the game had finished.
The third news came from a game involving Whitkirk Wanderers Reserves and Rothwell Athletic Reserves which was abandonned last Saturday. This is the same Whitkirk team (well their Reserves) who were involved in Wednesday's abandonned game. I had no problems with Rothwell back in December. It seems that the League is now a little concerned as these two teams are due to meet on Wednesday in the Trophy semi final. There could be sparks!!!
