The holders Greece are out. A disastrous decision by their veteran goalkeeper saw him chase the ball from a long cross right across his goal area. He got nowhere near the ball and when a Russian forward hooked the ball over his shoulder towards the centre of the goal area, the goalkeeper was stranded and left his goal untended. An easy tap-in and Russia won the game 1-0.
In the game between Spain and Sweden a goal in the third minute of added time at the end of the game saw Spain win and qualify for the next stage. Just before the goal an excellent refereeing decision saw the attacking team retain their advantage. Two players ran into each other and both fell to the ground appearing to hold their heads. A cursory glance from the referee and he continued to chase up the field with the attacking Spanish forward in control of the ball. The ball was chipped forward and the goal scored a split second later. Both players seemed to recover pretty quickly and the score was Sweden 1-2 Spain.
