I missed all but the last 5 minutes of the first half of Austria and Croatia, which meant I missed the awarding of a kick from the penalty mark in the 4th minute.
I've seen the playback of the incident leading to the award and it looked like a clumsy sort of challenge, the sort seen week-in week-out in pub games across England. The scorer of the resulting goal was Luka Modric who has recently signed for Tottenham Hotspur. I've no doubt that Tottenham are pleased that their new acquisition has made an early impact on the tournament.
Despite almost constant pressure from the co-hosts, Austria, Croatia managed to hold out for the remaining 86 minutes and 3 minutes of added time at the end of the second half. So with both co-hosts having lost their opening games, there is a danger that "local" interest in the tournament could be all over by Friday. Austria 0 - 1 Croatia
