The Test (A Practice)

A change of venue tonight for training as we decided to see how far me and Fat Lad have progressed. Instead of the rolling grassy hills we usually train on, we were on the track. It wasn't THE track, the one where the fitness test takes place, but it's the same length, shape and made of the same materials ... and I hate it!

I had a rough idea of how far I could go and set myself a target of 2000m in the 12 minutes allowed and hoped/expected the Fat Lad would just about break the 2500m mark. It was therefore disappointing for us both to come up short on those estimates. I managed 1880m and the Fat Lad managed 2410m. The upside is that he has 10 more weeks of training (less 2 weeks on holiday in sunny Cyprus) to find his "missing" 90m and he's already "found" at least 1000m. I have 62 weeks to find my missing 620m and I couldn't run for 4 minutes never mind 12 just 5 weeks ago! So to beat the test, we have to progress at about the same rate of an extra 10m per week - easy! We're going to have another go in around 3 weeks and then another go just before the Fat Lad goes on his holidays.

Others trying out their fitness test pace were J-C, Mr H, Chuckles Elder and Younger and Zico just ran for fun. Chuckle the Younger thought I wouldn't finish the 12 minutes and Chuckle Elder thought I'd manage 1700m. Chuckle Elder thought that Fat Lad would be 600m short of the test mark. So we both outstripped his expectations. Even so I was still disappointed with my distance especially as I feel I could have found a little more out there. Back to speed endurance on Wednesday!

Calories burned 546, max hr 93%, average 69% (slow warm up and warm down?)
