Game 15

This fixture in the County Challenge Cup was originally set for Saturday but the home side's First team who play at Contrib level, have a home game on Saturday so it was agreed to bring this one forward.

The game was under floodlights, a smallish crowd paid an entrance fee to get in and I'm sure they were disappointed by the home team's performance. They were battered 5-0 by half time and despite not conceding any additional goals in the second half, they were nowhere near reducing the deficit. A nasty clash of heads saw two players, one from each side, leave the game temporarily, neither returned as their bloody wounds could not be sealed without the aid of stitches and neither felt like continuing.

The game itself was well contested by two physically strong sides and I only had to speak to a couple of players all night. One was the home goalkeeper late in the game after he adopted an aggressive attitude towards an attacker and so collected the game's only caution. After the game the Secretary told me that on my blind side he had swung a punch at the attacker and had there been a neutral Assistant, the player would have been dismissed.

I thanked him for his honesty and he also told me the 4th goal was scored by a player in an offside position, but not by much. If that's all that I got wrong I'm happy with it. I burned 1704 calories which is a new record for a 90 minute game with an average of 75% and a max 89%. I have another tie in the same round on Saturday - busy, busy. Dad's funeral and cremation is on Thursday. he'll be getting good send off!
