Training XLI

Season's Greetings to all!!!

Having not trained for a few weeks I was consumed with guilt on waking with a stomach that looked like it had been inflated and decided that I needed to go for a run. Staying at the in-laws provides opportunities not available at home, i.e. a wider range of food and alcoholic drinks. So having indulged yesterday, the existence of a sports complex just a 1/4 of a mile away with 6 football fields was also too good to resist.

I headed off down there before 10 and my head was complaining as was my stomach but I ignored them as I started a lap of the field closest to the car. At the end of the lap I was beginning to have second thoughts and then when I was half way through my shuttles I became aware that I was attracting some attention. The grassy area is also attractive to dog walkers and I noticed that one or two had stopped just to watch me huff and puff my way around the field and on my shuttles.

It was good to see that all were armed with some implement (or plastic bag) for use in retrieving any deposits left by their hounds. One young lad was almost open mouthed as I passed him for the third time and that was just on the warm-up. Then it was time for some work. I had toyed with the idea of some speed endurance work up and down the field but I thought that would be too repetitive so I opted for 2 minutes running and 1 minute walking. I managed 5 sets before taking a 5 minute rest and then repeated another 5 sets.

In between times one of the local dog walkers told me off for cutting a corner. I suggested he might want to take account of the 30 minutes I had already been working and he then asked me how long I had been running this morning (hadn't I just told him that?). I told him 30 minutes and he mumbled something which I didn't understand (as it got lost in translation from the local dialect!). I finished my running, completed my warm down and headed off home for a nice warm shower. 877 calories, 98%max (sign of a lack of training) and 84% average.

Now where are those leftovers???
