Having put in a rubbish performance at training on Monday I promptly fell ill with man flu - really, really bad MAN FLU!
To make matters worse I had to travel across country to another of our sites to support the manager as a new process was being bedded in - twice! The only upside was I had use of a hire car (VW Jetta 2.0 TDi) which was a much smoother ride than my Beast (Toyota Surf 2.4TDi 4x4). So I sat feeling sorry for myself with snot coming out of both nasal cavities, filling all my sinuses so my head felt like a balloon and I also developed a hacking cough as the snot drained down my throat - yuck!
Training on Wednesday was cancelled as I was attending a District FA meeting on behalf of the RA. There was a good report on JayC from his Cup Final last Thursday and mention was made of my little "chat" at the County FA. Apart from that there was little to do.
My appointments from my Supply League were published this week and with my Sunday league and Cup appointments I have a game every two days on average throughout the end of March and all of April. I also have a couple of days where I will probably pick up another game, so it's a busy time. I got a call on Thursday confirming my game today (Saturday) and another a couple of hours later calling it off.
It seems some damage was done to the ground and this led to the postponement of the home team's game last week. The repairs haven't been inspected by the grounds committee so the ground was still, as far as the league was concerned, unfit for play. So I contacted the Appts Sec asking for another game and he told me he had nothing but knew of two leagues who might have a game for me. He then txt me yesterday morning to say my game was back on.
So I made good use of some quiet time to get a few things done. My kit bag was packed, my boots washed off and put on the radiator to dry. I also wrote up my games from the season into my FAMOA logbook. Now I just need to get the games signed off so I can swap the points earned into supplies from the RA.
Now it's time to make a few last minute preparations before heading out. I love and hate this time of the season. In just 44 days the season will be over, but at any point during that time a stupid injury could wreck what looks like a great end to the season. Preparation is key ....
