Sitting here on the eve of my first honours game (middle) for 5 seasons and I have to admit my appetite for the game I love is just a little jaded.
I've had another game with something riding on it today and because of the behaviour of one of the managers, I've spent a combined total of around 80 minutes on the phone to colleagues trying to convince myself that it's not me that's causing the issues.
Anyway, on to today's game. The ground was hard, there was a blustery wind and the skill levels were low. My first action was to award the away team a penalty after I saw an attacker being held as he tried to head the ball. Goal scored 0-1, less than 2 minutes played.
Goal 2 arrived on 7 minutes, again another penalty. This one against the away goalkeeper who tripped an opponent just inside the penalty area. As this was also DOGSO, he was sent off. There was another goal for the away team, who despite being reduced to 10 men, had the better of the play. The home team popped in an equaliser a few minutes later and I issued a caution to a player on either side before half time.
Things calmed down in the second half, with no goals and one more caution (to a home player) before the end. I enjoyed some very nice sausage and chips, courtesy of the home club. I also had a good chat with Robin, the home club secretary, before making my way home and running up a huge phone bill! Calories 1337, average 78%, max 95%.
Time for a nightcap and some well deserved sleep. Up early tomorrow to pack my bag before heading out to pick up one of my Assistants. Fat Lad is looking after the County's U14 girls final tomorrow morning. I'm sure he'll have a fun time.
