Game 68

Severe frustration before this game as I got a call from the referee to tell me that the M62 was blocked by a crash and to avoid it. Easier said than done as every route around the M62/M606 junction became gridlocked. Constant liaison between me, the referee and the home club ensured everyone was kept informed but a late arrival was unavoidable and kick off was delayed by 25 minutes.

The game itself was a shining example of two teams playing for little more than pride. The assessor counted a total of 16 fouls in the whole game. Unfortunately the referee, Johnno, had to caution two players, one for dissent and the other for deliberately running across the ball as an opponent was trying to take a free kick.

Other than that , one of the home players scored with two spectacular strikes, the first a volley from around 25 yards and the second a low rising shot from more than 30 yards. His team mates chipped in with another goal which, after the away team popped a couple of close range efforts, meant the game finished 3-2.

The assessor seemed very pleased with all of us and never even mentioned my crossed flag late in the first half. Johnno did a good job of keeping me going as I found I had no strength in my legs. I'm not surprised as this game was my 16th open age fixture in 32 days. 12 have been middles and 4 lines.

Tonight I burned less than 1000 calories (996) with a max hr of 85% and an average of 66%. I am, to put it mildly, absolutely out on my feet. I have 6 more games until the end of the season and I cannot wait for the rest ...
