Last night I went out to celebrate the birthday one of my wife's work colleagues. When trying to park my car I had a space pinched from me by one of the players who took part in Game 17. When I got to the bar where we were meeting everyone else, I bumped into the captain from the home team in Game 3.
It was a very late night (early morning?) when we got home and I was struggling a little to motivate myself to get to this morning's game. I arrived in plenty of time and the game kicked off in light drizzle, quickly followed by heavier rain, sunshine and wind. The players seemed to be enjoying themselves and this lifted my mood and I also started enjoying the game, despite the weather.
The home team scored two goals in quick succession and despite their best efforts in the second half, the away team had no reply. The quality of the football was very poor but one young player showed some excellent touches but he drifted out of the game after the first 20 minutes.
The home right back was in the wars as he suffered two injuries, each of which required treatment, in the space of 5 minutes. His right wing also had a nasty bang to the head when challenging for the ball and there was a clash of heads. I was too close to the incident to see what happened clearly and stopped play so both players involved in the incident could get treatment.
The away team player hurt his ankle as he landed after the clash of heads and had to be replaced soon afterwards. Another of his team mates suffered a thigh strain and had to be replaced at half time. The game fizzled out as the wind got stronger and sunshine was replaced by an overcast sky. I had hardly had to run in this game and it was no surprise when the game finished with me burning just over 1000 calories, with an average hr of 60% and a max of 78% ... and no cautions. In fact I only had to speak to a couple of players in the whole game.
So a late night, a quiet game and now it's time for total rest. I have no games until October 25th, but 24th is still open. I am not training at all this week and will return to training after we return from our friend's wedding in Cornwall next Sunday. So enjoy the peace and quiet!
