Physio

Turned up for my appointment at 6:15 and was greeted by Jo who was a petite blonde with an easygoing manner.

She took down all my details concerning the current injury and previous recent injuries before commencing an examination. She told me that I seemed to be healing very quickly as I had a good range of motion and strength on the injured leg. She showed me some strengthening exercises for my gluteus maximus so it takes some of the strain off the hamstring when I start refereeing again. After a 5 minute session of manipulation of the affected area and demonstrating some deep muscle stretches, Jo carried out some ultrasound treatment.

After all that my leg felt great. She still advised that I leave off any running until the weekend and even then it should only be some light jogging. I can still train in the gym and she also gave me some manipulation work for my wife to do. Providing I get no reaction I can build that up over the week to include some harder running. I am to go back next Thursday for another check up and manipulation/ultrasound session. Providing I haven't done any damage with the gym work, I can run faster, with a view to returning to sprinting in the fortnight after that.

To be totally honest I never sprint as hard as I did in training the night I got the injury, so I think I should be ok in a fortnight. Meanwhile I've had to give backword on my two fixtures this weekend (West Yorkshire League Assistant Referee appointment at table toppers Carlton Athletic and Division Two game in my Sunday league).

I also have noticed that I'm down to referee an Alliance Division Two game for the West Yorkshire League next Saturday but I've not been advised of the fixture. I'll give backword on that to save myself for the County Cup game on Sunday October 7.
