Fitness Test

Not the County one but something I did for myself.

I got a text on Thursday asking if I was fit enough to take on the role of 4th Official at the District Sunday Cup Final. I had given backword on the District Saturday Cup Final because of my injury and thought my season was over, but my leg has felt ok. I have to admit I had a few guilty twinges last weekend when I went out with my wife and daughter on Saturday when we spent the weekend at my in-laws rather than give the leg a run out in a Saturday/Sunday game.

So my answer was yes but I had the doubt in the back of my mind whether I would cope if I was called into action. The senior Assistant had given backword because of a niggle so all the officials had shuffled up leaving the 4th Official role open for me. I got in touch with the Fat Lad who has a Cup Final middle today and tomorrow (I'll be his 4th Official) and suggested I have a little run around a local park.

We did a few lengths of the field with some jogging followed by some running sideways, backwards, stretches and twists. It was during these twists that I managed to catch my heel in the grass and tumbled head over heels much to the amusement of the Fat Lad. He was glad of the run out as well a he's been feeling the pace of the busy end of season run-in. So with him loosened up and me feeling fine about the hamstring, we headed off home feeling much amused and satisfied that we were both ready for Sunday (he has Saturday to cope with first - I'll just be spectating if I manage to sneak up there ... Mrs Rogue's birthday - it might not be a good idea to go watch a game!!!)
