Euro 2008

... has kicked off with the co-hosts Switzerland losing 1-0 to the Czech Republic. The BBC TV panel of pundits are currently debating the no penalty calls by the Italian referee.

As usual, with the benefit of 4 slow motion replays, they have decided that the first decision should have been a kick from the penalty mark for a handball and even if it wasn't the referee should have virtually evened up the decision by giving the second, which to me, looked less like a kick from the penalty mark.

I thought the referee acquitted himself well and his nearside assistant made a fantastic decision not to raise his flag for the player who ran through and score the winning goal. He was at least 2 yards onside when the ball was played forward although a team mate was in an offside position. So little for the pundits to talk about. The game was poor with the home side really only coming to life in the last 15 minutes but at least it's underway.

Portugal (probably including Ronaldo) face Turkey in 50 minutes. The Turkish side are always physically strong and play passionately. They will give the stylish Portugese a tough ride.
