This one between Portugal and Turkey went as I predicted in my earlier post. The first foul on Ronaldo took place less than 2 minutes into the game and the foul count for Turkey kept rolling up with the giraffe necked (my wife's description) Ronaldo seeming to attract most attention.
In reply, Portugal have hit the goalframe 3 times, had a goal disallowed for an offside offence and scored one of the most well crafted goals I have ever seen. A beautiful 1-2 between a centre half and an attacker saw the centre half, Pepe, play the ball calmly past the advancing Turkish goalkeeper. The news of the night as far as the ITV commentary team were concerned was the emergence of Colin Kazim-Richards as an international player. The lad was playing for Sheffield United as recently as 2 years ago and despite speaking little or no Turkish has made progress at Fenerbahce. He could do little against the briiliant counter-attack which brought Portgal their second goal right at the end of the game. Some strong play by Ronaldo, a surging run, a cross, a spin on the ball and a shot on goal by Miereles saw Portugal double their lead and win this game comfortably.
I've just seen an advertisement for the first "BIG" game of the tournament as Holland play Italy on Monday night - training better finish early enough. Portugal 2-0 Turkey
