Game 1

First competitive game of the season on Wednesday and it was a good one all round.

Two committed teams, plenty for me and the referee to do and I think the better team won ... just. No cautions in the game which is unusual for any fixture involving these sides as they are both quite physical in their approach to football. Any situations with potential to bubble over, were quietly and efficiently managed by the referee who put in a very good performance.

I think this was based on the confidence given by playing a good advantage in the first quarter of the game and this resulted in the away team's only goal. The equaliser came on the half hour mark. In the second half there was a call for a goal but I was well positioned to support the referee's decision of no-goal. The home side scored the winner with around 10 minutes to play and although disappointed, the away team accepted their defeat with very good grace.

Afterwards the assessor had words of praise for each of the team and we all headed off home happy. I didn't stay for the usual post-match drink as this was the first of 6 games in 7 days and I think my family might forget what I look like! I burned off an astounding (for a Supply League line) 1465 calories, max hr 92%, average 75%
