Game 7

A short trip up the A1 for a line supporting a referee who is one of those who has inspired me to train to pass the fitness test.

At the age of 50, Suits You Sir passed the fitness test and was appointed to my Supply League as a level 4. I therefore have 5 years to emulate his achievement. Today he demonstrated a good level of fitness and match control and steered this scrappy fixture to a satisfactory conclusion.

He had 3 cautions, a handful of injury assessments, a kick from the penalty mark and a load of whinging to cope with and he came off the game smiling. I helped out a couple of times with free kicks where he was unsighted and indicated a few offside offences. Apart from that managing the technical areas (newly introduced this season in this league) was the biggest challenge but I coped.

I burned 1583 calories with a 90% max hr and an average of 75%, so not too hard. When I got home, I got a call asking me to take a game on tomorrow morning, which I agreed to, before remembering I am supposed to be "relaxing" at home with my dear wife - oops! I'm heading to Sheffield in the afternoon to see my dad in hospital. He had an operation on Monday and suffered two heart attacks on the operating table, but sounded great when I spoke to him yesterday, so it looks like he'll be around for a while yet!
