With the majority of the games in the league called off after the local authority closed down their fields for all sporting activities, I was the lucky one who had a Sunday morning game.
It wasn't much of a spectacle and I crowned it all by making a mistake in law which could have proved costly. After a goalkeeper picked up the ball deliberately kicked to him by a team mate I allowed the ball for the resulting indirect free kick to be placed inside the goal area - oops! There was a melee and a claim for a goal but from my position, less than one metre from the goal line I waved it away.
The other disappointing aspect from this game was the fact that 4 of the 5 cautions issued were for dissent. The cautions were shared between the two teams, with the away team picking up the odd one out, which was for delaying the restart. We had some lengthy delays for assessment of injuries with one player actually leaving the field because of suspected concussion, another receiving a graze down the side of his face which bled for a short time and a goalkeeper being replaced by a substitute after getting kicked on the hand.
The away team led at half time from a free kick which went through the defensive wall picking up a deflection on the way through. The equaliser was a spectacular overhead kick from the corner of the penalty area. The home team's second goal came late in the game and despite the nine minutes of added time, no equaliser was scored.
I burned 1389 calories across both halves and through the interval. Max hr 85%, average 72%. Track test tomorrow, some speed endurance on Wednesday and then the fitness test on Friday before I get back out on the green stuff.
