Sometimes our enthusiasm for training isn't all it should be. Let's face it, in sub zero temperatures with the frost clearly visible in the air and a light drizzle in the afternoon making the track slippy, it would have been all too easy to turn around and go home ... but not last night.
When I arrived Titfer was already out on the track running with Mrs Titfer. It seems she's decided to train with him to see if she can lose some of the Christmas baggage. My wife is doing the same but in the safety of her own home with nightly hour long sessions on the Wii Fit!
Anyway Titfer is running 2 minute laps with 1 minute rests. Fat Lad and I were supposed to be starting early but he'd been held up so I started doing the laps with Titfer. Three laps later Fat Lad arrives and we get down to some proper work. Half way through our warm up the local Supply League team turned up and of course the catcalls started - all in good fun though.
With the warm-up complete we had a choice of continuing to do the 2 minute laps with 1 minute rests that Titfer (who had finished by now) was doing with Mrs T or we could go back to Plan A which was 100m at 3/4 pace followed by a walk/jog of 100m. We went for the 100m runs but unfortunately we did a little faster than 3/4 pace and ended up doing most of them in around 18s.
After 4 laps Fat Lad's back started playing up again just as it had on Monday. He tried to stretch it out by hanging from a container by the side of the track. It was purely temporary relief and he spent most of our rest period (after 5 laps - 10 x100m runs) stretching and loosening up. Then we started out second set and once we got into the swing of things we were comfortably getting inside 20s on these runs but the recovery was getting tougher. On the very last run (number 20) I felt a little twinge in my hamstring so stopped short - no sense in risking injury.
We did our warm down lap, stretches and got off home before we froze (not much danger as we both had plumes of steam coming off our heads!!! 1339 calories burned off, 83% average, 98% max.
