Training XLIII

My legs haven't hurt as much since the third week of training back in the summer. I did the full warmdown on Wednesday, eased myself into a hot bath and went to bed early. Nevertheless my groin on both sides, right hamstring (the one that tweaked on Wednesday) and left calf were all giving me gip when I rolled up at the track at 6 last night.

Fat Lad wasn't there so I took myself round on a lap to keep warm but as I rounded the top bend the cold was so severe that I couldn't fell my cheeks (all four of the them!). Fat Lad arrived and I set off on another lap and he finished his before we started the shuttles. The track was slippy and we certainly couldn't have repeated Wednesday's "faster than 3/4 pace" runs. We settled for running single laps with 1 minute rests as Titfer had done on Wednesday.

The first two laps were fast with Fat Lad coming in around 1m48s and I did 1m53s. I then slowed down and the Fat Lad stayed pretty consistent around 1m50s. We completed our set of 4 laps and by that time I had slowed to 2m20s but we were working hard. At that point some other runners joined us on the track. This interrupted our running as Fat Lad and I tried to ensure they knew what they were doing (they hadn't trained for over 10 years).

We got through our second set of 4 laps and then did a couple of warm down laps before giving the newbies a class in warmdown stretches. It was too cold to hang around for long and we scuttled off home. 1239 calories burned, 99% max with an average of 80% (spent too long standing around teaching the newbies!).

It's likely that today's game will be called off if my garden is anything to go by. My son has just told me that we have snow on our Christmas tree which is outside ready to go to the local tip, which is an indication of how thick the frost is. There's still a chance the game will be on as the field is a bit of a sun trap, so here's hoping for sunshine this morning!!!
