One of the schemes operated by the FA is the FA Match Officials Association (FAMOA) and all referees could enrol as members. The members also had the opportunity to take advantage of a secondary scheme where they collected points throughout the season for various activities, such as refereeing, assistant refereeing, assessing, instructing and mentoring, as well as attending development courses for promotion and also the local Referee's Association (RA). The two bodies, FAMOA and RA, are becoming more closely linked in the 2010-11 season, forming a new body called RA-FA. I'll be attending their training session next Monday ... can't wait to see what's covered!
The FAMOA scheme was headed up by Roger Vaughan, who was one of the group leaders on my National Instructors course last year and it offers referees and those involved with refereeing, the opportunity to trade their points for equipment. This year, despite retiring from active refereeing in December, I managed to accumulate the maximum number of points which could be traded in.
So I placed my order for two shirts with The FA badge embroidered on the breast, as well as a key-ring (Liam nabbed the last one), a lapel badge (Liam nabbed the last one) and an assessor's A5 folder and they all arrived today, just a few days after placing my order. The folder includes some sample record cards intended to help the assessor record match events, prepare their de-brief and outline their report.
There's not very many cards though, so I'm tempted to laminate them and use a dry wipe pen, so they can be re-used. I might give it a try out at my game on Saturday. Speaking of assessments, I've picked up another next Tuesday which takes me to 4 for the month of August which is a good start to the season. I'll be even busier next month as I will need to help my District FA as the promotion candidate assessments start on the third weekend of the month.
