Training 3.9

Playmates were a little sparse tonight as the County FA was running a Supply League Assistant Referee's evening. I helped out on this last year, as well as participating, but this year I've already done my bit during the Promotion Seminar for referees seeking promotion from level 7 to 6.

This left Paul and I and he's going on holiday next week so I decided to send him off with a gruelling session. We both noted that Tuesday's session had given us a few aches and pains ... including a couple of suspected heart attacks (chest muscles complaining about doing press-ups!), so I decided tonight was all about running.

We did 6 sessions of 5 minutes running with 2 minute rests in between each one. I didn't seem to have as much energy as in previous sessions, so my heart rate struggled to get into the maximum intensity bracket of the work-out, but I did manage to squeeze in one of my "episodes".

I already have a diagnosed heart condition known as cardiomyopathy and from time to time, it affects my heart rhythm. It happened tonight as my heart rate spiked to above 100% of maximum and on looking at the image below, you can see exactly when this happened. Nevertheless, I kept on tramping around the field and saw the session out, but did take things a little easier than I originally intended.

Now a few things to note before I wrap up this post. Firstly, why do people who are playing golf, ok whacking a golf ball around aimlessly, insist on doing this on football and rugby fields close to where a junior football team and we were training? I don't go running around blowing whistle and waving my arms or the junior team kicking a ball around on their course, now do we???

Secondly, I saw a dog tonight. Nothing unusual in that except it was the same breed as my dog, Dawn (Kennel Club name Pony Until Dawn) who is a Weimaraner, a type of German hunting dog. The unusual thing about this Weimy was that she hadn't had her tail docked and it was like a little whip lashing around behind her as she criss crossed our path around the field!

Lastly, this is my opportunity to wish my lovely baby daughter, Katharine (Kat), a happy 17th birthday and my brother in law, Neil, a happy ... well let's just say it's more than 30th ... birthday.
