Can it get any worse?

Having lost my best ever refereeing weekend to injury I turned out with the intention of undertaking my third assessment of my probationary period this afternoon.

When this one went in, hopefully the County FA would see fit to confirm I had reached the required standard and I would be confirmed as a FA Regsitered Assessor.

So when I turned up for the game, watched the referee conduct his field of play inspection, little did I know how disappointing my afternoon would be. The away team, who lost their driving force in the close season when the most enthusiastic person I have ever met died and they couldn't raise a side. This player was happy all the time, cajoled his mates into playing and kept the club going.

It seemes that after the league granted all clubs permission to hold a minutes silence in respect of their club's loss, the team he had been with couldn't raise 7 players to start their own game. So the referee I was due to assess was left without a game and I had a free afternoon.

I managed to miss England Womens World Cup defeat to USA and England Rugby Union's victory over Samoa, but I got all the updates for Leeds United's 7th league win of the season!
