This is the 100th post on this blog.
So do I have anything interesting to talk about? Well sort of! Referees for years have laboured in the dark unless they had a friend who could find out how they had been scored by a team on a particular game. From the beginning of last season the Supply League referees were able to find out their scores as well as those awarded to them by assessors.
Tonight I attended my first District FA meeting as the representative of the Referee's Association. I saw how football is managed at District level and there was some surprising matters which were discussed. Most interesting for me was that I got to see the marks awarded by teams to all of the referees in the District Cup games played last weekend ... including my own!!!
Apparently even though I cautioned 2 players, dismissed their best player for two cautions in the same game and they lost - the home team gave me 85/100. The away team who had three players cautioned but managed a 3-1 win despite being a goal behind for almost 70 minutes of the game - gave me 60/100. It seems that I'm the first referee they have scored so far this season in this competition, so perhaps I should feel honoured?
It was good to see that one of the referees I assessed earlier in the season received 100/100 from both teams in his game despite having to deal with difficult issue which needed handling sensitively. He has a bright future ahead of him if he chooses refereeing instead of playing. Another of my "assessees"(?) made one decision which one team decided warranted a very low mark, which is totally wrong. He too will be a fantastic prospect in future seasons and hopefully this won't hold him back.
Oh and one more thing, they obviously expect me to stay a while in the District FA as I've been presented with a tie. It's a long time since that's happened!
