Training IX

A medium intensity session tonight and we had a guest star for our warm up in the form of Chuckle the Younger. He did his own thing while we worked out and having seen the session he was doing, I was glad we stuck to the MI stuff.

The session was easy enough ... running at a pace that kept the pulse just under 86% of max for 1 minute, 3 minutes, 6 minutes, 12 minutes, 6 minutes, 3 minutes and finally 1 minute with a 1 minute walking rest between each run. In that time Fat Lad, Chuckle Elder and Zico managed just over 7.5km and I managed around 5.75km over the whole session which is a nice little run out. Friday's session is already planned as CE is away at Staverton Park for the PGMOL meeting. We're going to do the session that nearly killed me two/three weeks ago with the laps of the field. It will be good to see how much (if any?) I have progressed. I burned off 1024 calories which is not too shabby. I've now set the programme on my heart monitor to burn around 1050 per session, including warm-up and warm-down. I've also set teh liekly heart activity rates and I'll see how they go over the next few weeks.

On the subject of Euro 2008, the first semi final between Germany and Turkey has just reached half time with the score at 1-1. Turkey scored first in a game for the first time in the tournament and held their lead for 4 minutes. Near the end of the half Rolfes for Germany headed the back of a Turkish player's head and the crack was heard in the commentary box according to John Motson of the BBC. It was a sickening clash and both players had to leave the field of play as they were bleeding badly from their cuts. The Turkish player (I'm really sorry but I missed his name) returned to the game but Rolfes has had to be replaced by Frings, as his bleeding would not stop and he also possibly had a touch of concussion. I hope it doesn't put him out of the final, if his team make it there.
