All the way back in May a Fat Lad and his fatter mate decided to get fitter with their very fit mate who was the older of two brothers who operate on the Football League line.
The two fat boys trained in the face of adversity such as bad weather, council employees chasing them around municipal tracks and of course that old favourite, injury. The odds went up a level in September when the Fat Lad had to pass the County FA's pre-assessment preliminary fitness test and run 2500m (at least) in 12mins and a couple of 50m sprints in 7.5s. He did so with the help of Chuckle Elder who virtually physically dragged him around the last 800m.
The assessments came and went which brought us to last night. A lot of familiar faces on the track with Chewitt, Fireman, Perry Mason, JayC, as well as Fat Lad representing our District. From across the County, Chinaman, Dee-El, JayP, Browny, Padge Jr and Tommy D were all lining up to pound the track into submission.
Fat Lad did his bit and JayC, Chewitt and Dee-El all put in fantastic distances. Very, very pleased for all of my friends and it's one more hurdle crossed on the way to Level 4. I'm hoping it's my turn this time next season.
