Media's referee taster

From The FA's website

Monday, 23 February 2009.

A special media day was staged in Bristol last week to promote refereeing in the south-west of England.

Co-ordinated by FA Regional Referee Manager Roger Vaughan, the event was attended by local media and a film crew from Setanta Sports.

Roger Goodwin, Referee Development Officer at the Gloucestershire FA, had also invited members of the county’s referee academies and other officials to come along on the day and several referees including Charlotte Blake, Jordan Kenny and Chris Tebb took up the opportunity.

The two Rogers were joined on the day by The FA’s National Head of Referee Development Ian Blanchard and together they presented sessions on the skills of refereeing and recognising challenges before going outside and doing practical sessions on ‘running the line’ and whistle technique.

The day finished up with some mini games being refereed by the attendees between teams from local schools and colleges before the assembled media took the opportunity to interview those present to gain an insight into refereeing and were very impressed with the professionalism shown by all at what proved to be a very successful event.
